Whats in a name? When we bought the business 3 years ago we had a dilema: to retain the excellent reputation the tea rooms has in the area for cream teas but also attract new customers by offering good quality lunches and, during the summer months, evening meals. The Old Station Tea Rooms or Holmsley Tea Rooms sounds very quaint (if not a little old fashioned) but did not reflect how we felt the business should move forward. It was also important to retain the historical connection that the building has had with the railways together with its unique location. The Station House at Holmsley came of age.
One of the fantastic things about the New Forest is the huge range and
quality of produce on offer. Wherever possible, we buy ingredients
sourced from inside the forest. using the New Forest Marque (a local
initiative for ensuring quality local produce) as a guide.
Our menu is wide and varied and reflects the seasonal produce
available. We offer a constantly changing specials board in addition to
a standard menu, which includes breakfast, lunches, children’s options and of
course our naughty but nice cream teas, cakes or home-made gateaux.
One thing that we refuse to do though is skimp on our commitment
to quality. This is shown in the dishes that we create and the positive,
encouraging comments received from our customers. To add to this,
we have also produced an interesting and good value for money wine
list, which we feel complements our dishes.
With a combined experience of over twenty years in the licensed trade
and as fellows of the British Institute of Inn keeping, we bring with us a
wealth of positive experience to move the business forward. Our
previous venture, The Three Tuns at Bransgore enjoyed remarkable
success with ourselves at the helm and it is this drive and passion that
we also bring here.
Cream teas, will, no doubt, be what people instantly recognise us for,
but we have now gained a reputation for our culinary
creations. Our ambition is to enhance what we already do well by bringing in new
ideas so that we are not just known as a tea house, but as The Station
House.
